Vacation planning

Hi girls!
Just a reminder that on October 30th, Daylight Savings Time ends. Clocks need to be turned back one hour. It's also a great time to check your smoke detectors and update your emergency preparedness bags. I've heard it said that our ambition can be demonstrated by what we do with that one extra hour of life...you better believe I'll be sleeping in. :)
Now is the time to start planning that spring break vacation! If you're interested in a particular resort or hotel and want to learn more about it check out www.tripadvisor.com where you can read reviews from regular people who stayed there and want to share their experiences, both good and bad. Also check out www.frommers.com for some good info. I like using www.orbitz.com to compare prizes on an easily readable spreadsheet. I've never had any problems booking cars, hotel, or airfare on orbitz. You can often save money by booking directly on a vender's own web site and some
people swear by www.priceline.com (I've never had success with it, and
besides, I don't swear...) :)
Marie Calendars is having their special "Any pie for $5.99" all month long.
Hurry! You're running out of time! Don't forget to turn in those pie tins and you'll get one even cheaper! Considering some of their pies are usually $12.00 it's a great time to pick one up (if you don't mind also picking up a
few pounds) :)
If you don't want to commit to a season pass and can only handle a theme park in small increments of time, LegoLand will admit you into their park for FREE at 4:00 pm. Just remember, they close at 5:00! That's one hour of free play time!
For $30 off your next purchase of $150 or more at Staples on-line use coupon
code: 8404336555707986. Sign up for their frequent buyer club to earn more freebies.
Ok doky. That's it for today. Keep your great tips on steals and deals coming in and I'll share them with everyone! Have a great day!

My Points

Hi girls!
Just in case you're dying to see the latest hot flick and you have a sweet tooth to boot...
The San Diego Family Magazine (that you can pick up for free from most grocery stores or McDonalds) has a coupon for a free small candy with paid admission to the UltraStar Theater at the corner of El Camino Real & Alga & Aviara Parkway until 11/15/04. Woohoo!
The new LDS movie "Saints & Soldiers" is playing at Movie Max and San Marcos Edwards Stadium theater. I actually saw it last weekend and it is very well done. It's not a movie for your little ones...it's about war, so there is some blood and guts. Two of the actors in it were playing their grandfathers who actually lived the story. These Mormon movies are definitely getting better with practice. :)
Let me know if you're interested in attending the "Time Out For Women" on November 13th and I'll get you some discount tickets for $38. The event is being held at the San Diego Convention Center and is basically an all day event designed to fill your spiritual cup. Tickets on-line cost $3 more and starting November 7th they'll go up even more. Grab a girlfriend and spend the day getting rejuvinated. :)
By the way, weren't you impressed that I sent you all that earthquake info and then only a few days later an earthquake hit?! Gee, she's thrifty and timely! :)
I can't remember if I've told you about a great rewards web site, so I thought I'd mention it. You earn points just by reading email (I just click on them while I'm talking on the phone), playing games, and shopping through MyPoints at stores like Gap, Old Navy, Target, JC Penney and more. You can use your Points for free gift cards for places like Target, BLOCKBUSTER Video, Red Lobster, The Olive Garden, The Home Depot and over 75 others.
I've actually received a bunch of free stuff from them, so unlike some of the reward programs on-line, these guys are really legit and good.
When you sign up, enter my User Name (SISTERTHRIFTY) in the box labeled REFERRED BY A FRIEND. (That way I'll get Points for referring you.) Here's a link where you can learn more, and join for free:

Ok doky. Have a wonderful day!

Free ad

Hi everyone!
Students returning to school this fall in the 4th through 12th grades can take advantage of FREE online homework assistance throught the City of San
Diego Public Library's web site: www.sandiego.gov/public-library
Tutor.com provides one-on-one information services for libraries and other educational institutions
I want to tell you about a great LDS business directory where you can list
your company for FREE advertisement! Go to www.buildingthekingdom.com If
you have a big company, small business or just want to teach piano lessons on the side, do custom sewing projects for others or whatever, you can put yourself in the directory! This company is fairly new and already has over 1500 listings! Two of the three owners are brothers and are a total crackup. They've made some spiritual music CD's as well as some fun, goofy ones. Trina Boice has been working with them as a big sponsor of the LDS Music Festival & Expo in Las Vegas on Dec. 4 so when you sign up, be sure to put her name next to "Who referred you to BTK?" so she'll score points with her buddies and they'll know she's spreading the word. :)
If you've never seen the Christmas or Easter pageants at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove then you should really consider doing it this year. I took my family last year to see the Easter performance and we were all very impressed....flying angels, camels and peacocks and horses on stage and more! They really do a great job and I can even save you $5 off the price of each ticket if you order by October 15th. When placing your order by phone use Code #DM4. Call 714-54-GLORY. You can get more information on-line as well or e-mail reservations@crystalcathedral.org
By the way, if you have friends that are interested in receiving these incredibly informative, helpful, witty (and humble) e-mails from Sister Thrifty, just have them give me their e-mail address and I'll add them to the distribution list. The more the merrier!
That's it for now! Have a great day!

Car rental

Hello there ladies! (And even a few men who have joined us lately...)
There is a sister in my ward who is looking for some kind of work she could do for you while at home (anything on the computer, assembly, whatever).
Another sister would like to purchase your used vehicle and make monthly
payments on it if possible. If you can help either of these sisters please
contact me and I will forward your note on to them. Thanks!
So many people now have high speed Internet access in their homes that they can turn their computer into a phone and call anywhere in the world. You are probably familiar with "instant messaging," or "IMing," which is free and takes place from computer to computer. But now you can use your computer to make phone calls for free. It’s a given that IM services are free, but the idea of free telephone conversations over the Internet is also possible. One of the biggest and fastest growing of these services is Skype. About 22 million people are now using Skype around the world. You call other Skype customers for free using a headset device, and calling people without the service is less than two cents a minute. Apparently, the sound quality is near perfect, as well. All you have to do is download the program on your computer and you’re set. Calling overseas costs nothing! That is great news.
In other telecommunications news, hotels are blocking cell phone signals in their rooms and lobbies because they are losing tons of money on missed phone charges. People are using cell phones instead of making calls from their hotel phones. So, hotels in the U.S. have imported a German-made device that blocks cellular signals. The equipment is apparently illegal, but it’s not stopping hotels from doing it. If you need to dial 911 in an emergency, this is bad news. Just remember that it’s happening. And, if you’re traveling and are in a hotel, you may need to go outside. The good news is that a hotel recently messed up my reservations and were so apologetic that they kept offering us goodies like bags of popcorn and free movies in our room. Managers always have the ability to make you happy if you ask them what they can do...
Finally, if you're making travel plans for the upcoming holidays here are a few on-line coupons for rental cars:
Visit www.alamo.com/quick by December 31, 2004 and you will receive an electronic coupon for one free day of a midsize through fullsize 4-door car in the US or Canada. Simply request coupon ID F271 at the time of reservation.
Also, you can go to www.nationalcar.com/12free4 and follow the instructions to earn a free rental day certificate for every 2 qualifying rentals you make during the promotion.
Have a fantabulous day!

Sister Thrifty
