Krispy Kreme

Hey girls
Just in case you were contemplating an early rise to hit that new Krispy Kreme Opening Day and win won of those free donuts for a year coupon ....I checked their web site and it looks like it has been postponed until September 21st. See you there, bright and early...
I also wanted you to know that Macy's is having a major clearance sale.
40-50% off the stuff that's already marked off 50%!!! Hmmm...shouldn't that be close to free then? Well, almost....
Happy Day!

Education

Hi sisters!
Ready for school? Ready or not!.....
Whether you are in college, just graduated from college, or graduated a while ago, you'll want to listen up. Student loan rates have dropped considerably, and there has never been a better time to consolidate.
Beginning July 1, people who graduated this spring can consolidate their loans at 2.77% for the next 30 years! You have to consolidate within six months of your graduation date, though. So, get it done. If you’ve been out of school for more than six months, you can consolidate your loans at a rate of 3.37 percent. And, if you have PLUS loans, your rate will be 4.17 percent. Some lenders are even offering to lower rates by ¼ of a point if you allow automatic payment from your bank account. These are the lowest rates in history so take advantage before the rates jump back up. And remember you cannot consolidate your loans if you’ve already done it.
If you're still out there shopping for school clothes there are many sales going on, especially at the mall. Pacific Eyes and T's will give you 25% off if you spend $50 or more. Payless Shoe Store is having their famous Buy One Get One 1/2 Off sale. Marshalls has all kinds of stuff on sale. Chicks is having their big annual "Chick Sale" for school and sports clothes. By the way, Carlsbad High does NOT require you to wear their CHS clothing for PE. You can wear your own PE clothes as long as it doesn't have logos on it and is either black, gray, purple or white.

I finally got the dates for the 2004 BYU Education Week satellite broadcast:
September 14-17. There will be 3 classes broadcast each evening from 4:00-10:00 pm MDT....so that's what time here?...3:00-9:00 pm. Check out BYUTV on Dish Network (channel 9403) and DirecTV (channel 374) or check local cable listings. You can also see and hear it on-line. For video &
audio streaming in English and Spanish go to http://educationweek.byu.edu
Some of the more popular teachers at Education Week are the ones who get broadcast such as Victor Ludlow (middle east expert & scriptorian), Brent Barlow (great classes on marriage and cute sense of humor), Mary Ellen Edmunds (Mormon version of Erma Bombeck), Paula Fellingham (upbeat parenting classes), and more!! Start thinking about attending Education Week next August at BYU. It's such a wonderful event and one of the best ways I know to renew your spirit and invigorate your mind. Make it your new summer tradition!
Jayne Pehrson, a Relief Society President in our Stake, wanted me to get this word out:
My sister is in need of an assistant for her daycare. It is temporary.
She needs someone starting August 30th. It is Monday through Friday 7am
-5pm. If there are any questions they can call her at 760-757-3462.
Thanks, jayne
Well my dears, good luck this week with school! ;)

Local deals

Hi girls!
I have been out of town for 2 weeks.....aaaahhhhhh....(that's the sound of me relaxing)
I hope you've been enjoying the last few days of summer vacation before school starts up again. I just drove into town and found out that an important fireside was not announced in church yesterday so I wanted to get the word out fast! This could be a very interesting and inspiring fireside to share with your friends and family. This Tuesday, August 24th, Elder Jenson, a General Authority of the Church, will be speaking at 7:00 pm in the chapel at the Edson Range in Camp Pendleton. It was originally scheduled for current, past, or retired military and their families, but now they're afraid no one will even go because it wasn't advertised to the wards. ANYONE is welcome to attend and it should be really great, especially considering the state of the world these days. To get there go in the main entrance, then turn left at the 3rd stop light.
Here is a letter from Fannie Miller that she'd like me to share with you:
>There is a girl who is looking for a room to rent in a home. She is 32
>and has a 5 year old boy. She is from Colombia and she speaks quite a
>bit of English. She can pay $400 or max $500 a month.
>She has been living with Ruth, a member of the Church who lives im
>Carlsbad, just north of Tamarak, west of Hwy. 5. Her name is Kathy
>Andrade, her cell phone number is 760 672-6104, or for more information
>you can call Fannie.
Also, I have been made aware of a refrigerator that is available to anyone needing one...if you are aware of someone who may be interested call Bonnie Packard, our Stake Relief Society President.
I made a mistake on my last e-mail letter to everyone.....I know, so hard to believe....yeah right.
I was so excited to tell you about BYU Education Week, which normally shows broadcasts of some of the lectures during the week. This year the speakers were NOT shown, however, because of the Olympics but they WILL be shown in September. Once I unpack my suitcase and find the schedule I'll let you know. :)
Now turn off you computer and go to the beach while the water is still warm!

Auto Auction

Hi girls!
My big thrifty score this week was buying a car through an auto auction. My sister has a good LDS friend who charges $500 to help you buy at an auction
where the dealers buy their vehicles in Las Vegas. I bought a 2003 (used)
vehicle for $8000 LESS than I would have paid at a dealership and probably $3500 LESS than what I would have paid to a private seller (based on Kelly Blue Book value). Woohoo! If anyone is interested I'll give you the guy's name...Stepahnie Figgatt also bought her car at an auction with a guy up in the LA area. He charges $1000 because he specializes in higher end cars.
I'm still stuck in the minivan price range...
Here is a coupon code on-line to save 10% at Target:
http://momsview.com/target.shtml
If you want to save 10% at the Gap click here:
http://momsview.com/gap.shtml
How about saving $10 at Old Navy?

One of Sister Thrifty's readers wants you to pass this along to your friends to support the fight against breast cancer:
The makers of M&M candies has teamed up with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds through the sale of their new " pink &white" M&M candies.
For each 8-ounce bag of the special candies sold, the makers of M&M
(Masterfoods) will donate 50 cents to the foundation. The next time you want a treat, please pick up a bag. (now sold in stores nationwide) - You will be donating to a great cause and satisfying your sweet tooth. Like I need another excuse to eat MnM's!!!
By the way, I'm going to BYU to attend Education Week and wanted to tell you all about it. It's WONDERFUL and you really need to find a way to go one year. Talk about filling up your spiritual cup, if ya know what I mean.
There are classes on parenting, marriage, gospel topics, health, ballroom dance, education, relationships, and so much more. It rejuvinates me and gets me ready for another school year. If you can't get to Provo during August 16-20, get to your satellite dish instead and watch some of the lectures they'll be recording and showing in the evenings during that week.
DISH Network and DirecTV both have BYUTV and will have the programing for Education Week. Once you go you'll wonder what took you so long to do it!
I'll be traveling so if I don't find a computer to send you an e-mail for a couple of weeks, then think thrifty thoughts!!
CENTSerely,
Sister Thrifty

Free DVD

Hi girls!
Well, somebody has to live in Carlsbad....I'm so glad it's us! Is this weather glorious or what? :) Here are a few miscellaneous tips to brighten your day:
Bonnie Packard (Stake Relief Society President) received a call from a brother in Vista...Tom Randall...who recently acquired some red wheat for food storage...800 lbs or so that he does not need. It is stored in 5-gal (40 lb) cannisters. He can be contacted at 631-7350 if any one in your ward is interested...he's asking $10/40-lb cannister, or $100 for the whole 800 lbs. Not a bad deal.

If you would like a FREE DVD called "Terrorism: America's response. How to Prepare for Disaster." Call 1-800-289-2646. It's a financial services company and they will offer to give you information about buying gold, but you can just say you want the free DVD. I think normally they charge for it but I was listening to Paul McGuire (Christian talk radio) and the financial guy was saying if you just mention Paul McGuire you'd get it for free. This may be a good piece for your family to watch, especially since new, heightened terrorist alerts have recently been announced. It's so wonderful to have prophets who have taught us to be prepared for years....
Krispy Kreme is opening up two new shops in our area! One just opened up in San Marcos and another is supposed to be in Encinitas, and another in Oceanside. Woohoo! I e-mailed the corporate office to find out when their grand openings will be but I still haven't heard back from them, so if you know about it let me know!! The reason I wanted to find out is if you're one of the first 100 customers on their big day they'll give you a coupon for a dozen free donuts every month for a year. I know, like I need that much sugar in my life....
Have a good one!

Sister Thrifty
