Delta Airlines

I usually send just one e-mail a week, but I wanted to let you know about a couple of things today:
You have probably heard by now that Delta Airlines has filed for Chapter 11 and you're probably wondering what that means to you....Wwhat happens? Well, for now nothing happens. Airlines have had a long history of seeking compensation and protection from bills when they file for bankruptcy. This is just another chapter. If you’re holding flights on Northwest or Delta, your flights are fine. The only caveat is that holiday travel can be severely disrupted when an airline files for bankruptcy. So, Thanksgiving and Christmas this year may be tough. It’s common for airlines to eliminate
15 to 20 percent of their aircraft when it happens. So Clark recommends reconfirming your schedule a month and then a week before you go. You should also break your addiction to using Delta’s and Northwest’s frequent flyer programs cards. You never know what could happen with these programs, so stop trying to earn miles. If you have miles, use them! Also, people are speculating that Delta could be absorbed by bankrupt Northwest. But that is pure speculation. Employees are going to get eaten alive. There will be paycuts and layoffs, just as there were at USAir and United. This is the unfortunate part. Employees always get hit the worst. But for consumers, it will simply mean better service. Just don’t buy into the speculation about buying stocks. The stocks are worthless, and that is just bad advice.

Most of us have change jars all over his house, especially if you have men in the house. At the end of the day, we dump the change from our pockets into the jar. It’s just another example of the arrogance of banks out there. Some credit unions don’t charge, but they are hard to find.

This isn't necessarily a thrifty tip, but a helpful one I wanted to pass along....
Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.
ICE stands for 'In Case of Emergency.' If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do. Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. ICE your cell phone NOW! You might not want to stop at just ICE. Go ahead and enter an ICE2, ICE3, etc just in case no one is home at ICE.

BEWARE NEW CREDIT CARD SCAM
Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.
This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself.
The scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?"
You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?"
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?"
After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation.

Terrible news: The Carlsbad Police Dept. says there was an attempted child
abduction recently in the Aviara area. The guy was described as a
Hispanic male, 40ish, pocked marked skin with a mole on the side of his nose. He had curly hair. He was driving a red pick up with a trailer hitch and either a white cab on the back or those large white tool boxes. The girl he attempted to pull into the car was 10 years old.
There was also a rape two days ago at the Batiquitos Lagoon parking lot in broad daylight. Girls, please be careful.
A subscriber in Carlsbad would like to know if anyone has a good recommendation for a carpet cleaner. I actually got so fed up with them that I bought my own cleaner and do it myself!
